Centre Assures LPG Support With Subsidy Benefits for Domestic Gas Consumers

The government says domestic LPG users continue receiving substantial subsidy support while Ujjwala beneficiaries enjoy additional assistance despite global energy price fluctuations and supply concerns.

The Central Government has reassured domestic LPG consumers that subsidy support will continue despite rising global energy prices and geopolitical tensions affecting international fuel markets. The announcement comes amid growing concerns over a possible increase in cooking gas prices following disruptions in global LPG supply.

According to the government, domestic LPG cylinders continue to receive significant indirect financial support to protect consumers from the full impact of international price movements. Officials stated that while the retail price of a domestic LPG cylinder currently stands at around Rs 942, the government is absorbing a substantial portion of the actual cost through indirect subsidies.

The government explained that the indirect subsidy exceeded Rs 700 per cylinder during June and continues to remain above Rs 500 per cylinder in July. This support helps keep domestic LPG prices lower than prevailing international market rates, reducing the financial burden on households across the country.

Beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana receive even greater assistance. Under the scheme, eligible households pay around Rs 640 for a domestic LPG cylinder after receiving a direct subsidy of Rs 300 per cylinder. In addition to this direct benefit, the government also provides indirect subsidy support, further lowering the effective cost of supplying LPG.

The clarification comes at a time when global energy markets remain volatile due to ongoing geopolitical developments. Supply chain disruptions and concerns over international shipping routes have raised fears that LPG prices could increase further. However, the government has maintained that there is no shortage of domestic LPG cylinders and that adequate supplies are being ensured across the country.

Officials also highlighted the gap between domestic and international LPG prices. According to the government, the international price of a 14 point 2 kilogram LPG cylinder is significantly higher than the price paid by Indian consumers. By continuing both direct and indirect subsidies, the government aims to shield households from the sharp rise in global fuel costs.

The Centre emphasized that maintaining affordable cooking gas remains a priority, particularly for economically weaker families. The continuation of subsidy support is intended to ensure uninterrupted access to clean cooking fuel while minimizing the impact of international market fluctuations on household budgets.

With global energy prices continuing to remain uncertain, the government has assured consumers that it is closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to keep domestic LPG supplies stable while providing financial support through existing subsidy mechanisms.
