Modi Says India and New Zealand Ready for a New Shared Journey

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India and New Zealand are ready to embark on a new phase of partnership, describing the relationship between the two countries as a shared journey built on trust, people to people connections and common aspirations.

Addressing the Indian community in Auckland, Modi referred to the Maori word “Waka,” explaining that it represents much more than a boat. He said the term symbolises a collective journey where people move forward together with a shared purpose, adding that India and New Zealand are now prepared to begin such a journey.

The Prime Minister praised the Indian diaspora for serving as a strong bridge between the two nations. He said Indians living across New Zealand have contributed significantly to strengthening cultural, economic and social ties while creating new opportunities for future cooperation.

Modi also highlighted the achievements of people of Indian origin in New Zealand. He referred to leaders and professionals who have excelled in different fields and praised cricketers Rachin Ravindra, Ish Sodhi and Ajaz Patel for representing New Zealand at the highest level.

Speaking about future collaboration, Modi said India is eager to deepen cooperation in sports, technology, innovation and skill development. He noted that India can learn from New Zealand’s expertise in rugby and mentioned the joint training initiative organised in Bhubaneswar through the partnership between New Zealand Rugby and Rugby India.

He expressed confidence that both countries can achieve greater success by working together, saying the growing friendship between India and New Zealand will open new opportunities for trade, education, sports and technological advancement in the years ahead.
