Jail Escape: Escaped Kakinada Sub Jail Inmate Captured Within Twelve Hours

Jail Escape: A bike theft accused who escaped from the Peddapuram Sub Jail in Kakinada district was arrested by police within twelve hours after an intensive overnight search operation. The accused, identified as Pothula Sundaram, was taken back into custody and shifted to the jail following his arrest.

The incident came to light during the evening prisoner count after the inmates had been locked up following dinner. Jail staff found that one prisoner was missing and immediately began searching the jail premises, suspecting he might be hiding somewhere inside the compound.

When the search yielded no results, officials reviewed CCTV footage and discovered that the accused had managed to escape by climbing over the jail wall. Senior authorities were informed without delay, and the local police launched a coordinated search operation.

Police teams visited the homes of the accused’s relatives and friends while gathering local intelligence to track his movements. Their efforts eventually led them to Pakaraopeta, where the accused was located early the next morning at around 5 am.

After taking him into custody, police informed senior officials and brought him back to the Peddapuram Sub Jail. The swift operation prevented the accused from remaining at large for long.

The Jail Superintendent said the prisoner had escaped by taking advantage of a brief lapse during the lockup process. He added that jail personnel acted immediately after noticing the escape by alerting higher authorities and coordinating with the local police.

Following the incident, officials from the Jail Department, including the departmental DSP and Peddapuram Circle Inspector Tirupathi Rao, inspected the jail premises. Authorities reportedly instructed staff to remain alert and avoid any negligence while supervising inmates to prevent similar incidents in the future.
