Schools Reopen June 15: Telangana Extends Summer Holidays as Schools Reopening Deferred to June 15
Telangana government has postponed the reopening of schools to June 15 giving students additional summer holidays while adjusting the academic calendar to compensate for lost working days.

Schools Reopen June 15: Telangana students have received a welcome break as the state government decided to extend summer holidays and postpone the reopening of schools for the 2026 27 academic year. Instead of reopening on June 12 as originally scheduled, all government aided and private schools across the state will now resume classes on June 15.
The decision was announced by School Education Department Director Dr Naveen Nicolas through official orders. Authorities said the change was made after considering requests from teacher associations and parents who pointed out that June 13 and June 14 fall on the second Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Officials felt that reopening schools for just one day before a weekend would not be practical for students, teachers and school managements. Following several representations from stakeholders, the government reviewed the schedule and approved a revised reopening date.
While students will enjoy three additional days of vacation, the Education Department has also taken steps to ensure that academic work is not affected. To compensate for the lost instructional time, July 11, which is normally observed as the second Saturday holiday, has been declared a regular working day for all schools.
The department clarified that every government, aided and private school in Telangana must remain open on July 11 and conduct classes as per the academic calendar. Officials have instructed district and regional education authorities to communicate the revised schedule to all educational institutions.
Parents and students have largely welcomed the decision, as it provides a smoother transition into the new academic year. Education officials believe the revised plan will balance convenience for families while ensuring that the required number of working days is maintained.
