Telangana Heatwave Intensifies as Temperatures Cross 46 Degrees in Several Districts

Telangana faces severe heatwave conditions as temperatures cross 46 degrees in multiple districts while heatstroke deaths rise and weather officials warn people against daytime travel.

Telangana is witnessing one of its harshest summer phases as intense heat and scorching winds continue to grip the state. Residents across districts are struggling with extreme daytime temperatures, while officials are urging people to avoid unnecessary travel during peak afternoon hours.

Several regions recorded unusually high temperatures on Wednesday, with Nirmal district’s Dilawarpur registering the highest at 46.5 degrees Celsius. Hanamkonda district’s Dharmasagar and Karimnagar district’s Choppadandi followed closely, both touching 46.4 degrees Celsius. Temperatures crossed the 46 degree mark in 19 districts, while all 33 districts reported readings above 40.5 degrees Celsius.

The rising temperatures have also brought serious health concerns. Heatstroke incidents increased sharply, with reports confirming the deaths of 11 people in a single day. Among those who lost their lives were farmers and employment guarantee workers who had stepped out for work despite the severe weather conditions.

The current heatwave has also rewritten long standing temperature records in several areas. In the former Adilabad region, the previous May record of 46.3 degrees Celsius set in 2019 was surpassed after Dilawarpur touched 46.5 degrees. Hanamkonda also saw its previous record of 45 degrees set in 2017 being broken with a fresh high of 46.4 degrees.

According to weather officials, severe heatwave conditions have affected districts including Kumuram Bheem Asifabad and Jangaon, while hot wind conditions have spread across many other regions. Authorities have issued alerts stating that hot winds are expected to continue until May 25 and advised people to remain indoors during the hottest hours of the day.

Despite the harsh weather, there is some positive development regarding the southwest monsoon. Weather experts said the monsoon is progressing steadily and may enter the eastern and central Bay of Bengal within the next three to four days. Meteorologists also indicated that a trough extending from Uttar Pradesh to North Telangana could trigger isolated thunderstorms and light rain in parts of Telangana.

Meanwhile, neighboring Andhra Pradesh also reported extreme conditions, with Piduguralla in Palnadu district recording a temperature of 47.6 degrees Celsius, making it one of the hottest locations in the region.
