Rohit Sharma Gets Padma Shri: Indian cricket star Rohit Sharma added another prestigious milestone to his illustrious career after receiving the Padma Shri award from President Droupadi Murmu at a grand ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. The honour recognised his exceptional contribution to Indian cricket over nearly two decades.
Rohit attended the award presentation ceremony along with his wife Ritika Sajdeh. He received the award during the second phase of the Padma Awards celebrations after being unable to attend the first ceremony conducted earlier this year.
The veteran batter has built a remarkable legacy since making his international debut in 2007. Across all three formats of the game, Rohit has delivered consistent performances and established several records. His achievements include more than 4300 runs in Test cricket with 12 centuries, over 11500 runs in One Day Internationals with 33 centuries, and more than 4200 runs in T20 internationals.
One of the defining chapters of his career came as captain of the Indian team. Under his leadership, India secured the 2024 T20 World Cup and followed it with the 2025 Champions Trophy, strengthening his reputation as one of the most successful leaders in modern Indian cricket.
Following the award ceremony, the Board of Control for Cricket in India and members of the Indian cricket team congratulated Rohit on the achievement. They described the honour as a fitting recognition for a player who has made a lasting impact on the sport and inspired millions of fans across the country.
Reacting to the recognition, Rohit said the award was a proud moment not only for him but also for his family. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent India and reaffirmed his commitment to contributing to the game. Currently focused on the One Day format, the veteran cricketer has also indicated his desire to be part of India’s campaign in the 2027 World Cup.
