Vijaya Dairy Chairman: Dasari Balavardhana Rao Elected Vijaya Dairy Chairman Unopposed

Vijaya Dairy Chairman: Former Gannavaram MLA Dr Dasari Venkata Balavardhana Rao has been elected chairman of the Krishna District Milk Producers Mutually Aided Cooperative Union Limited, popularly known as Vijaya Dairy. He was chosen unopposed at the board meeting held on September 22.

Balavardhana Rao was already serving as a director on the cooperative and had been handling the responsibilities of acting chairman following the resignation of Chalasani Anjaneyulu. The vacancy led to discussions over the next chairman before the board formally selected Rao for the post.

The new chairman brings previous experience in both public life and the dairy cooperative sector. He served as an MLA from Gannavaram in 1999 and 2009 and has also been associated with the milk producers’ cooperative as a director for several years.

The Vijaya Dairy board met on Tuesday to complete the election process. Directors collectively proposed Balavardhana Rao’s name and elected him without opposition. He subsequently assumed charge as the new chairman.

The change in leadership followed the resignation of Chalasani Anjaneyulu, who had stepped down from the chairman’s position as well as the board. His resignation created the vacancy and prompted the process for choosing a new head of the cooperative.

The selection of Balavardhana Rao had been discussed within the Telugu Desam Party leadership in the days leading up to the board meeting. Reports had earlier indicated that his name had received support from party leaders and elected representatives from the Krishna and NTR districts.

Following his election, Balavardhana Rao expressed his gratitude to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and Minister Nara Lokesh. He said he would focus on the interests of dairy farmers and work towards strengthening the cooperative.

Vijaya Dairy is a farmer owned cooperative based in Krishna district. The organisation works with milk producers and handles milk procurement and related dairy activities in the region. Its official website says the cooperative is owned by more than 150,000 farmer families and has operated since 1965.

The new chairman is expected to focus on issues affecting milk producers, along with the financial and operational performance of the dairy. Balavardhana Rao said his aim would be to support dairy farmers and help Vijaya Dairy move towards stronger financial performance.

His appointment comes at a time when cooperative dairy organisations continue to play an important role in connecting farmers with organised milk procurement and dairy markets. For producers associated with Vijaya Dairy, the leadership change is therefore being closely watched.

Balavardhana Rao’s experience as a former legislator and long serving cooperative director is also expected to shape his approach to the new responsibility. His immediate focus will be on the functioning of the milk union and the interests of the farmers connected with it.

The election brings an end to the uncertainty surrounding the vacant chairman’s position following Anjaneyulu’s resignation. With the board now completing the appointment, Balavardhana Rao has formally taken charge of Vijaya Dairy.
