Oracle Layoffs Spark Fresh Concerns Among Employees

Concerns over another round of layoffs at Oracle are growing as employees report changes in internal communication access and uncertainty over possible job cuts.

Recent reports suggest the company could cut between 7,000 and 10,000 jobs globally as part of a broader effort to reduce costs. However, the exact number of employees who could be affected has not been officially confirmed by Oracle.

The situation has become a major talking point among Oracle employees in India and the United States. Employees have been closely watching internal Slack groups, with some noticing changes in membership and the deactivation of accounts belonging to colleagues.

Unlike the large wave of layoffs earlier this year, the latest cuts appear to be taking place more quietly and across individual teams. Reports indicate that some employees were affected without the widely discussed early morning notification that had become associated with Oracle’s previous layoffs.

Employee discussions on Reddit have added to the uncertainty. A thread titled “Layoffs started in US” reported that several senior employees in Oracle’s OCI organisation had been affected. Other users claimed that some Slack accounts were deactivated after employees were informed about their departures. These posts are based on employee reports and have not been independently confirmed by Oracle.

The possible workforce reduction comes as Oracle continues to face heavy spending requirements linked to its cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure expansion. The company has been investing heavily in data centres while also looking for ways to control operating costs.

Earlier reports indicated that managers across different teams had been asked to identify areas where spending could be reduced. Unlike a restructuring limited to one business unit, the current exercise is reportedly focused on broader budget reductions, making it difficult for employees to know which roles could be affected.
