Telangana Employees Seek Release of Pending DA Arrears

A government employee from Adilabad has moved the Telangana High Court seeking directions to the state government to release five pending Dearness Allowance installments along with the accumulated arrears.

The writ petition was filed on Wednesday by government employee Mohammed Nizamuddin through advocate Rajkumar Gummi. The petition asks the court to direct the government to clear the DA installments pending from January 1, 2024, July 1, 2024, January 1, 2025, July 1, 2025 and January 1, 2026.

The petitioner has based the claim on an earlier government order issued by the Telangana Finance Department. According to the petition, Government Order MS No. 52, dated June 11, 2021, provides for Telangana government employees to receive 0.91 percent DA for every one percent increase granted by the Central Government to its employees.

The petition states that the Central Government revised and released DA in five installments during the relevant period, but the corresponding revisions for Telangana government employees have not yet been released by the state government.

According to the figures presented before the court, the total DA applicable to state government employees should have reached 46.41 percent. However, the petitioner pointed out that the Telangana government has so far sanctioned only 33.67 percent.

This leaves a reported gap of 12.74 percentage points in DA, which the petitioner has asked the government to release immediately along with the arrears.

The matter came before the Telangana High Court on September 1. The court issued notices before admission, asking the state government to respond to the petition.

Government lawyers appeared before the court and accepted the notices. They sought additional time to file a counter affidavit explaining the government’s position on the pending DA payments.

The court allowed the request and adjourned the matter for further hearing on September 29.

The petition has drawn attention among state government employees, as the release of pending DA installments has been a long standing issue. Employees are now watching the court proceedings closely to see whether the government provides clarity on the pending payments and their arrears.

The final decision will depend on the arguments from both sides and the government’s response before the court.
