Revanth Reddy Opens Lithium Ion Cell Plant as Telangana Strengthens EV Manufacturing

Telangana has expanded its ambitions in the electric vehicle and clean energy sector with the inauguration of a lithium ion cell manufacturing facility in Mahabubnagar. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy inaugurated the new plant, describing it as an important milestone in the state’s journey towards advanced manufacturing and future technologies.

The facility has been established by Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies with an investment of Rs 500 crore. It is part of the company’s larger Rs 9500 crore Gigafactory programme, which aims to develop large scale battery manufacturing capabilities in Telangana.

The newly inaugurated unit has an initial production capacity of 60 MWh. It will manufacture lithium ion cells in different formats that automobile manufacturers and industrial customers can evaluate before commercial production begins. The company expects to start supplying these cells for customer validation from August 2026.

The plant is one of the major components of Amara Raja’s battery ecosystem being developed in Telangana. Along with its research centre and the upcoming large scale manufacturing unit, the project is expected to accelerate the state’s presence in the growing energy storage and electric mobility sectors.

Addressing the gathering, Revanth Reddy said Telangana is creating an investment friendly environment by introducing industry focused policies and strengthening infrastructure. He added that the government is committed to supporting companies investing in advanced technologies and manufacturing.

The Chief Minister praised Amara Raja for combining local talent with global technology and said such projects would help India strengthen its position in the worldwide energy transition. He also expressed confidence that Telangana would emerge as a preferred destination for electric vehicle and battery manufacturing investments.

During the event, Revanth Reddy also spoke about the state’s long term development plans under the Telangana Rising 2047 vision. He said the government is working to attract more industrial investments while continuing discussions on irrigation projects that are important for the Mahabubnagar region.

The lithium ion cell plant is expected to contribute to employment generation, technological innovation, and the development of a strong battery manufacturing ecosystem, further reinforcing Telangana’s role in India’s clean energy and electric vehicle future.
