Two Drivers Killed in Fiery Coal Lorry Collision Near Khammam

A devastating collision between two coal carrying lorries near Khammam triggered a massive fire, leaving two drivers trapped inside the burning vehicles and causing major traffic disruption.

A tragic road accident near Khammam claimed the lives of two drivers after two heavily loaded lorries collided head on and caught fire within minutes. The incident took place near Mekala Thanda on the Khammam Warangal highway and created panic among motorists and nearby residents.

According to local reports, one coal loaded lorry was travelling from Visakhapatnam while another heavy vehicle was approaching from the Warangal route. The vehicles reportedly crashed into each other at high speed, causing severe damage to the front portions of both lorries.

The impact of the collision was so intense that the engine sections were completely crushed. Moments later, flames spread rapidly through the vehicles. Officials suspect the diesel tanks exploded after the crash, while the coal load inside one of the lorries helped the fire spread more aggressively.

Two men believed to be the drivers or cabin staff became trapped inside the burning cabins and could not escape. Locals rushed to the scene and attempted rescue efforts, but the heat and thick flames prevented anyone from moving close to the vehicles. Both victims were burnt alive before emergency teams could reach the spot.

Residents immediately alerted police and fire department officials after witnessing the accident. Firefighters arrived at the scene and battled the flames for several hours before bringing the fire under control. Another injured person was shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The accident also caused severe traffic congestion on the busy Khammam Warangal highway. Long queues of vehicles were seen on both sides of the road as police cleared the damaged lorries with the help of cranes and restored traffic movement later.

Transport officials said accidents involving vehicles carrying flammable or hazardous materials often become more dangerous due to the rapid spread of fire after collisions. Authorities advised heavy vehicle drivers to avoid overspeeding and remain cautious while driving on highways, especially near bends and narrow stretches.
