Telangana Free Laptop Scheme: The Telangana government has announced a major initiative to encourage higher education by providing free laptops to BC Gurukul students who secure admission into prestigious national institutions including IITs IIITs and NITs. The decision aims to ensure that deserving students from economically weaker backgrounds have access to the digital tools required for academic success.
The proposal received approval during the sixth Board of Governors meeting of the Telangana Backward Classes Welfare Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Educational Institutions Society. The meeting was chaired by BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar who emphasized the importance of supporting talented students as they begin their higher education journey.
Along with the laptop distribution scheme the government has approved several measures to improve digital learning across BC Gurukul schools and junior colleges. These include the purchase of new desktop computers and the installation of Interactive Flat Panels to strengthen classroom teaching and modernize educational facilities.
In another significant decision the government introduced a financial relief policy for families of students studying in Gurukul institutions. If a student passes away due to any reason while enrolled in a Gurukul institution the family will receive an immediate ex gratia payment of Rupees Two Lakh to provide financial support during difficult times.
Officials said these initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities while improving digital infrastructure in government residential institutions. The latest decisions are expected to strengthen BC Gurukul institutions and help students compete confidently at the national level with better access to technology and academic resources.
