Telangana Civic Polls in December: The Telangana government is considering December as the likely window for the second phase of municipal elections, with preparations expected to accelerate after the ongoing electoral revision process is completed.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has been a major reason for the delay. After its term ended in February, the government reorganised the civic body into Hyderabad, Malkajgiri and Cyberabad corporations. The restructuring has pushed the election exercise further than initially expected.

Elections for 116 municipalities and seven corporations were held in February this year. However, Greater Hyderabad, Warangal and Khammam were left out because their terms had not ended at the time. Polls were also not held in several municipalities, including Mandamarri, Manuguru, Achampet, Nakrekal, Kothur and Siddipet, for various reasons.

Officials are now looking at the possibility of conducting elections for the three Hyderabad region corporations along with Warangal, Khammam and other pending municipal bodies. The administration is expected to review its preparedness before finalising the schedule.

The ongoing Special Intensive Revision process is another factor being considered. Once that exercise is expected to conclude around October 19, the government could move ahead with the civic election timetable. Weather conditions, administrative readiness and the convenience of voters are also likely to influence the final decision.

No official election schedule has been announced yet, and the final dates will depend on the State Election Commission’s decision.
