Stree Ride Launched: Telangana Launches Stree Ride Initiative to Empower Women Drivers

Stree Ride Launched: In a major step towards women’s empowerment and economic independence, the Telangana Police Department has launched the Stree Ride initiative in Hyderabad. The project aims to encourage women to build careers in the transportation and delivery sectors while promoting safety, confidence and self reliance.

Director General of Police C V Anand inaugurated the programme, which has been developed jointly by the Women Safety Wing and the State Transport Department. As part of the initiative, electric bikes and electric auto rickshaws were flagged off to help women access self employment opportunities.

The first phase of the programme has provided opportunities to 55 women who have been selected as Stree Riders. These participants underwent specialised training in two wheeler and three wheeler driving at the Amberpet Police Lines before receiving their driving licences.

Officials said the initiative is designed not only to create employment but also to ensure safer transportation services for women, particularly during emergencies. The programme seeks to increase women’s participation in mobility based services across the state.

Speaking at the event, the DGP welcomed the growing involvement of women in delivery services similar to those offered by major food delivery platforms. He expressed confidence that the number of women riders would increase significantly in the coming months.

The Telangana government reiterated its commitment to supporting women’s employment and empowerment through such innovative programmes. Authorities have set an ambitious target of tripling the number of women riders within the next four months, creating more opportunities for women to achieve financial stability and independence.
