Shabad Mass Murder Accused Rajkumar Cremated After Family Declines Final Rites

The final rites of Rajkumar, the prime accused in the Shabad mass murder case, were carried out by municipal authorities on Tuesday after none of his family members came forward to claim responsibility for the cremation. The funeral took place at the Chevella cremation ground under tight police security to prevent any untoward incidents.

Rajkumar’s body had earlier been discovered on the outskirts of Penjarla village in Kothur mandal, bringing an end to the extensive search launched by police following the brutal killings in Rangareddy district. Authorities suspect he may have died after consuming a pesticide found near the body, although the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the postmortem report is completed.

After the body was recovered, it was shifted to Chevella Government Hospital for postmortem examination. While Rajkumar’s parents reportedly visited the hospital to identify the body, other family members refused to participate in the funeral process. According to officials, the family did not perform the last rites, prompting civic authorities to take charge of the cremation.

Rajkumar was the main accused in the shocking murder of six people, including a minor girl, his wife, and his two young sons. Investigators believe the killings occurred within a short span of time during the night of the incident, making it one of the most disturbing criminal cases reported in the district.

Addressing the media, Future City Police Commissioner Tarun Joshi said officers located the body after receiving information through the emergency helpline about an unidentified person lying near Penjarla village. Police matched the physical appearance and clothing with details collected during the investigation before confirming the identity.

Investigators also recovered a container of herbicide from the location where the body was found. Officials said the substance may have contributed to Rajkumar’s death, but stressed that forensic analysis and the postmortem findings would establish the exact circumstances.

Police further revealed that Rajkumar had been under severe financial pressure due to online betting activities. According to investigators, he allegedly used multiple mobile phones and numerous SIM cards for betting operations and had accumulated debts exceeding Rs 2 crore. Authorities believe these financial and personal issues form part of the broader investigation into the case.

Officials are continuing to examine every aspect of the murders, including the sequence of events, the weapons allegedly used, and the circumstances surrounding Rajkumar’s death. The investigation remains active as police await scientific and forensic reports before drawing final conclusions.
