Kavitha TRS Row: Delhi High Court Directs Kavitha to Respond to EC Over TRS Party Name

Kavitha TRS Row: The Delhi High Court has asked Telangana Rakshana Sena founder K Kavitha to first respond to the Election Commission of India regarding objections raised over her proposed party name. The court declined to interfere at this stage and advised her to complete the statutory process before approaching the judiciary.

Kavitha had filed a petition seeking directions to the Election Commission to approve the name Telangana Rakshana Sena for her political party. However, the poll panel had earlier asked her to submit three alternative names after receiving nearly 700 objections from various individuals and organizations.

The Election Commission also pointed out that the proposed name could result in the abbreviation TRS, which it considered a matter requiring further examination. It therefore instructed Kavitha to suggest alternative names that would not create a similar abbreviation.

During the hearing, the High Court observed that judicial intervention would be premature while the matter was still under consideration by the Election Commission. The bench emphasized that Kavitha should first file her reply and allow the Commission to complete its decision making process.

Kavitha launched Telangana Rakshana Sena on April 25 and later applied for its official registration as a political party. Following public objections, the Election Commission initiated the review process and sought additional clarification before taking a final decision.

The High Court clarified that Kavitha would be free to return to the court if necessary after responding to the Election Commission and exhausting the legal procedure available before the poll body.
