Heavy Rainfall Forecast Across Telangana as Monsoon Gains Strength

The southwest monsoon has intensified across the country, bringing the likelihood of widespread rainfall over the next 24 to 72 hours. According to the India Meteorological Department, Telangana is among 23 states expected to receive heavy to very heavy rain as weather systems become more active.

Weather experts said the renewed monsoon activity is not solely due to the monsoon trough. Two low pressure systems are expected to develop over the Bay of Bengal during the week before moving inland across central India. These systems are likely to carry large amounts of moisture, strengthening the monsoon circulation and increasing rainfall across several regions.

Rainfall is expected to become more widespread between July 1 and July 4. As a result, daytime temperatures may fall by around five to six degrees Celsius, providing relief from recent heat conditions.

The department has also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain in several Telangana districts, including Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mahabubabad, Warangal, and Hanamkonda.

Despite the improved forecast, Telangana recorded below normal rainfall during June. The state received 11.53 centimetres of rain against the normal average of 13.03 centimetres, resulting in a rainfall deficit of around 12 percent.

Sixteen districts reported deficits ranging from 20 percent to 59 percent, while Hanamkonda recorded one of the largest shortfalls. Officials expect the upcoming spell of rain to improve the seasonal rainfall situation across many parts of the state.
