HC on Police Jobs: Telangana High Court Seeks Report on Police Vacancies and Recruitment Drive

HC on Police Jobs: The Telangana High Court has directed the state government to submit a detailed report within one week explaining police department vacancies and the progress of ongoing recruitment efforts.

HC on police Jobs: The Telangana High Court has directed the state government to submit a comprehensive report within one week on vacant posts in the police department and the measures being taken to fill them. The order came while hearing a Public Interest Litigation that raised concerns over prolonged vacancies across multiple ranks.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G. M. Mohiuddin asked the government to provide detailed information on the total number of sanctioned posts, existing vacancies and the progress of recruitment initiatives.

The petition argued that delays in filling vacant positions have affected the efficiency of public administration while also denying employment opportunities to eligible candidates. It further sought a transparent annual recruitment calendar with fixed timelines for issuing notifications and completing the selection process.

Representing the state, government counsel informed the court that a recruitment notification had recently been issued for 7,437 posts, including Sub Inspectors, Assistant Sub Inspectors and Constables. The government also stated that it is reviewing the remaining vacancies for future recruitment drives.

The petitioner requested an interim direction to fill all pending vacancies immediately. However, the High Court declined to issue such an order at this stage, observing that the recruitment process had already begun through the latest notification.

The bench stated that the broader concerns raised in the petition would be examined after reviewing the detailed response from the state government. The matter is expected to be taken up again once the report is submitted.
