Bhagirath Back to Jail: Bandi Bhagirath Returns to Cherlapally Jail After Interim Bail Expires

Bhagirath Back to Jail: Engineering student Bandi Bhagirath, who is an accused in a POCSO case, has been shifted back to Cherlapally Central Jail after the expiry of his interim bail. Medchal police took him into custody late on Thursday night and completed all required legal procedures before transferring him to the prison under tight security.

The district court had granted Bhagirath interim bail on June 20 after considering his request to appear for his engineering examinations without losing the academic year. The court allowed the temporary relief with specific conditions so that he could complete his examinations before returning to judicial custody.

After securing interim bail, Bhagirath attended his scheduled engineering examinations. As directed by the court, the temporary relief remained valid only for the approved period, which came to an end on Thursday.

Following the expiry of the bail, Medchal police took the accused into custody and first shifted him to a government hospital for mandatory medical examination. After obtaining a fitness certificate from doctors, officials transported him to Cherlapally Central Jail shortly after midnight and handed him over to prison authorities.

Bhagirath was arrested on May 16 after a minor girl filed a complaint alleging that he had promised to marry her, mentally harassed her, and behaved inappropriately after allegedly taking her to a farmhouse. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under the POCSO Act and other relevant legal provisions.

Police officials stated that the interim bail was granted only to enable the accused to write his examinations and that the ongoing investigation remains unaffected. The case will continue according to law, with the next stage of court proceedings now drawing public attention.
