Bandi Bhageerath Withdraws Bail Petition in POCSO Case

Bandi Sai Bhageerath withdrew his anticipatory bail petition after arrest in the POCSO case as legal proceedings moved forward in the Telangana High Court.

Bandi Sai Bhageerath has withdrawn the anticipatory bail petition that he had filed in connection with the POCSO case registered at Pet Basheerabad Police Station. The move came after his arrest, making the request for anticipatory bail legally unnecessary.

His lawyer N Naveen Kumar submitted a letter to the High Court registry explaining that since the accused had already been taken into custody, the anticipatory bail plea no longer served any purpose. The letter requested the court to allow the withdrawal of the petition without issuing further directions.

The matter has now been listed under the withdrawal category before Justice T Madhavi Devi. Court proceedings are expected to formally record the withdrawal request during the scheduled hearing.

Earlier, Bhageerath had approached the court seeking anticipatory bail in the case involving allegations under the POCSO Act. During an earlier hearing that continued until late night, arguments were presented before the court regarding protection from arrest.

However, the court did not accept the request for interim relief. The judge stated that considering the seriousness of the allegations mentioned in the victim’s statement, immediate protection from arrest could not be granted.

Following these developments, Bhageerath surrendered before the police last Saturday and was subsequently arrested. With the arrest already completed, his legal team informed the court that the anticipatory bail petition had effectively become irrelevant under the present circumstances.
