Ireland Stun India: Ireland Shock India With Historic Victory in First T20 Match
Ireland produced a memorable performance to defeat India by 34 runs in the opening T20 match taking the series lead with disciplined batting and an impressive bowling display.

Ireland Stun India: Ireland created history by defeating India for the first time in international cricket with a convincing 34 run victory in the opening T20 match at Belfast. The memorable win gave the home side a 1 nil lead in the three match series and ended India’s impressive winning run.
After being asked to bat first, Ireland faced early setbacks as wickets fell quickly. Captain Lorcan Tucker steadied the innings with a composed 50 from 36 balls while Gareth Delany contributed an important 49 off 32 deliveries. Their partnership rebuilt the innings before George Dockrell added a quick 19 from just 10 balls, helping Ireland post a competitive total of 182 for 9.
India’s bowlers had mixed fortunes during the innings. Harshit Rana picked up three wickets and Arshdeep Singh claimed two, but Prasidh Krishna proved expensive, conceding 57 runs in his four overs, allowing Ireland to build strong momentum in the closing stages.
Chasing 183, India received an explosive start from Abhishek Sharma, who blasted a 20 ball half century with attacking stroke play. His aggressive innings briefly put India in control, but the match changed completely after his dismissal.
The Indian middle order failed to build on the promising start. Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan and captain Shreyas Iyer were dismissed cheaply, while Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube could not convert their starts into match winning knocks. Ireland’s bowlers maintained constant pressure and kept striking at regular intervals.
Matt Hoorland and Matthew Humphreys starred with three wickets each as India were bowled out for 148 in 18.5 overs. Despite missing several key players through injuries, Ireland produced a disciplined all round performance to register one of the biggest victories in the team’s cricket history.
