Telangana Markfed Achieves Record Corn Auction Price Through Transparent E Auction System
Telangana Markfed recorded its highest ever corn auction price after adopting a transparent electronic bidding process delivering better returns to farmers and improving institutional revenue significantly.

Telangana Markfed has recorded its highest ever realization from corn sales, marking a major milestone in the organization’s history. The achievement came after the corporation adopted a fully electronic auction process that attracted competitive bidding and delivered prices well above the government support level.
The record outcome is being viewed as a significant success for the state’s revised procurement and marketing strategy. By replacing conventional tender practices with transparent online auctions, authorities aimed to encourage fair competition among buyers and eliminate practices that had previously affected price discovery.
Officials said the highest bid touched twenty six thousand five hundred rupees per tonne, while even the lowest accepted price remained above the minimum support level. The average sale price also exceeded procurement costs, allowing Markfed to generate a healthy margin on the quantity sold.
The electronic auction covered a substantial portion of the corn procured from farmers during the recent agricultural season. The sale was conducted in multiple phases, with bids finalized after a detailed review of the tender process to ensure transparency and compliance with established procedures.
State Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao welcomed the outcome, stating that reforms in the auction mechanism had helped protect the interests of both farmers and the cooperative institution. The minister said the new system encouraged genuine competition and prevented price suppression that had affected earlier sales.
Markfed had faced financial challenges for several years because of low realizations during conventional tender processes. Officials believe the successful implementation of electronic auctions could become a model for future agricultural commodity sales by ensuring better market prices, improved institutional finances and greater confidence among farmers.
