G.V. Narayana Rao Dies: Veteran Telugu Actor G.V. Narayana Rao Passes Away at 73

G.V. Narayana Rao Dies: G.V. Narayana Rao, a familiar face in Telugu cinema, has passed away at the age of 73. Actress Karate Kalyani shared the news on social media, prompting an outpouring of condolences from the film fraternity.

Narayana Rao made his acting debut with K. Balachander’s 1976 film Antuleni Katha. His very first performance earned him the Nandi Award for Best Supporting Actor, giving his career an impressive start. Over the years, he appeared in more than 100 films and became known for his versatile performances.

His filmography included Antuleni Katha, Mutyala Pallaki, Angadi Bomma, Chilakamma Cheppindi, Gang Leader and Hitler. He also worked as a producer on films including Devantakudu, Intiko Rudramma, Yamudiki Mogudu and Pelli Neeku Shubham Naaku.

Born in Kurumaddali village of Krishna district, Narayana Rao spent his childhood and school years in Guntakal. His interest in the performing arts developed early. He trained in Bharatanatyam under Gidugu Visalakshi, learned Kuchipudi from Nataraja Ramakrishna and studied acting under A.R. Krishna.

Before entering films, he was actively involved in theatre. During his student years, he performed in plays such as Mohammed Bin Tughlaq, Prataparudreeyam and Manchutera. His theatre circle included noted actors such as the late Kota Srinivasa Rao, Nutan Prasad and Devadas Kanakala.

Narayana Rao later expanded his work to television as well, appearing in several TV serials. He was also known to share a close friendship with legendary actors Rajinikanth and Chiranjeevi.

The Movie Artists Association also expressed grief over his death and paid tribute to the veteran actor’s contribution to Telugu cinema. His passing marks the loss of an actor whose career spanned several decades across films, theatre and television.
