Bangladesh Presidential Election Scheduled for August 20 Following Shahabuddin Resignation

Bangladesh is preparing for a fresh Presidential Election after the resignation of President Mohammed Shahabuddin created a constitutional vacancy in the country’s highest office. The Election Commission has officially confirmed that polling to elect the next President will take place on August 20, with the entire process to be completed under the existing constitutional framework.

Unlike a direct public election, Bangladesh follows an indirect system for choosing its President. Members of Parliament alone are eligible to cast their votes, making lawmakers responsible for selecting the country’s next Head of State.
