Telangana Seeks 1.156 Million PMAY G Rural Houses from Centre

The Telangana government has intensified its push to expand rural housing by requesting the Union government to sanction 1.156 million houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin PMAY G. During his visit to New Delhi, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy met Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan and presented the state’s housing requirements.

According to the Chief Minister, a comprehensive survey conducted through the Awaas Plus platform identified 11,56,915 eligible rural families in need of permanent housing. He urged the Centre to approve the allocations at the earliest so that the state can accelerate the construction of homes under its Indiramma Housing initiative.

Revanth Reddy informed the Union Minister that providing houses for economically weaker families has become one of the government’s highest priorities. He also stated that the demand for rural housing has increased significantly over the years, making immediate support from the Centre essential.

Apart from housing, the Chief Minister submitted a series of proposals related to rural employment. He requested the inclusion of agriculture allied activities under the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission, enabling rural workers and small farmers to benefit from expanded employment opportunities.

The proposals included support for vegetable cultivation structures, fodder plot development, mulberry plantations, sericulture sheds, kitchen gardens, bamboo cultivation, water conservation trenches in hilly areas, and restoration of lands damaged by floods, drought, and sand deposition. The state also sought permission to include additional location specific works based on local requirements.

Revanth Reddy further appealed for restoring the provision of 90 days of wage employment for beneficiaries constructing Indiramma houses, similar to the support that was earlier available under the rural employment programme. He said the assistance would help poor families complete house construction without additional financial pressure.

Following the discussions, the Chief Minister said Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan responded positively to the requests and assured that the proposals would be examined. Revanth Reddy also invited the Union Minister to visit Telangana to review the ground level implementation of rural housing and development programmes.
