Aadhaar Based Online Transport Services to Bring 100 RTA Services Home
The government plans to introduce Aadhaar verified online transport services, allowing citizens to access around 100 RTA facilities from home while reducing visits to transport offices.
Vehicle owners and drivers may soon no longer need to spend hours visiting Regional Transport Authority offices for routine services. The Central Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a fresh gazette notification enabling nearly 100 transport related services to be delivered online through Aadhaar based verification.
The Telangana Transport Department is preparing to implement the initiative in phases. As a first step, a pilot project will be launched within the Khairatabad RTA office limits in Hyderabad. After evaluating its performance, the online services are expected to be expanded across the state.
The digital platform will cover a wide range of services related to driving licences, vehicle registrations, permits, conductor licences, public service vehicle badges, vehicle scrapping, fitness certificates and electronic challans. Officials believe the move will significantly reduce paperwork and improve public convenience.
However, services that require physical inspection or road safety assessments will continue to require in person visits. Driving licence tests and vehicle fitness inspections will remain mandatory at designated transport department facilities.
Among the services to be offered online are new driving licence applications, renewals, address and name changes, duplicate licences, international driving permits, vehicle ownership transfer, duplicate registration certificates, permit applications, tax refunds, permit transfers, challan payments and status tracking.
The Transport Department expects Aadhaar based verification to simplify service delivery while improving transparency and reducing processing time. Officials say the initiative will make transport services faster, more accessible and citizen friendly.
