Basavatarakam Hospital Turns 25: The Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute has completed a remarkable 25 year journey in cancer care, emerging as one of the country’s leading comprehensive treatment centers. To celebrate this important milestone, a grand Silver Jubilee event will be held on Monday at HICC Novotel in Hyderabad. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is expected to attend the function as the chief guest.

The hospital was established with a vision to make world class cancer treatment accessible and affordable for patients from all sections of society. Inspired by the wishes of Basavatarakam, the late wife of former Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, the foundation for the institution was laid in 1988. With support from medical experts, donors, and members of the Indian diaspora, the hospital gradually transformed into a major healthcare institution.

Initially launched with 100 beds by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2000, the hospital has significantly expanded over the years. Today, it operates with a capacity of 650 beds and is recognized for providing advanced cancer treatment and research services under one roof.

The Silver Jubilee celebrations will be led by hospital chairman and Hindupur MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna, who continues to carry forward the vision established by his father. Under his leadership, the institution serves more than three lakh outpatients and around ninety thousand inpatients every year. A significant number of beneficiaries come from economically weaker backgrounds.

The hospital has also played a major role in extending healthcare access through government supported schemes such as Aarogyasri and Ayushman Bharat. Thousands of patients have received quality treatment at no cost through these initiatives. Over the years, the institution has successfully performed more than eight thousand cancer surgeries and eighty six bone marrow transplant procedures.

Apart from treatment, the hospital actively promotes cancer awareness and early detection. Through a mobile screening unit equipped with modern facilities, medical teams conduct free health camps in remote villages and tribal regions. Around 250 specialist doctors from surgical oncology, medical oncology, and radiation oncology departments are currently serving patients.

Several political leaders, film personalities, medical professionals, and donors are expected to participate in the Silver Jubilee celebrations, reflecting on the hospital’s impactful contribution to cancer care over the last twenty five years.
