Born on July 17, 1941, Bharathiraja began his directorial journey with the landmark Tamil film 16 Vayathinile in 1977. He later entered Telugu cinema and directed several memorable films that continue to be celebrated by audiences.

Among his most admired Telugu works were Sitakoka Chiluka, Aradhana, and Jamadagni, all of which achieved major success and strengthened his standing as a master storyteller. The director had faced personal tragedy in recent years. Last year, his son and actor Manoj Bharathiraja passed away due to a heart attack at the age of 48. The loss deeply affected him, and several film personalities visited him to offer support during that difficult period.
