Ramagundam Manuguru Rail Corridor: Telangana Set to Get Mega Railway Corridor Between Ramagundam and Manuguru
Ramagundam Manuguru Rail Corridor: A proposed railway corridor between Ramagundam and Manuguru aims to boost freight movement, improve connectivity, support coal transport, and strengthen industrial growth across key regions of Telangana.

Ramagundam Manuguru Rail Corridor: A major railway infrastructure project is moving closer to reality in Telangana, with plans for a new rail corridor connecting Ramagundam and Manuguru. Estimated to cost around Rs 5,000 crore, the project is expected to transform freight movement and enhance regional connectivity across important industrial zones.
The proposed railway line will stretch for nearly 200 kilometres and provide direct rail access between key Singareni coal mining regions. Officials believe the corridor will significantly improve transportation efficiency while creating fresh opportunities for economic and industrial development.
One of the biggest advantages of the project is the reduction in travel distance for freight trains. The new route is expected to cut transportation length by nearly 150 kilometres compared to the existing network, helping reduce logistics costs and improving operational efficiency for industries dependent on coal and bulk cargo.
Railway assessments indicate that the corridor could handle around 12 million tonnes of freight annually within a few years of operation. Coal, cement, minerals, food grains, coke and other industrial commodities are expected to be transported through the route, generating substantial revenue for the rail network.
The corridor is also expected to strengthen passenger connectivity by linking important regions more effectively with the national railway system. Ramagundam’s location on the busy Delhi Chennai route is seen as a strategic advantage that could further support economic activity and future expansion.
At present, coal transportation from mining areas often passes through heavily congested rail sections, resulting in delays. The proposed corridor is expected to ease pressure on existing routes and provide a faster alternative for freight movement.
The Detailed Project Report has already been prepared and submitted for approval from the central government. Authorities aim to complete the project within five years, including the time required for land acquisition and construction.
Once operational, the railway corridor could improve access for trains travelling between eastern states such as Odisha and Chhattisgarh and northern destinations. Officials believe the project will not only improve transportation networks but also create employment opportunities and support long term regional growth.
