Delhi Hotel Blaze Leaves 21 Dead as Entire Family of Eight Perishes in Tragedy
A massive fire at a South Delhi hotel turned deadly, killing 21 people including eight members of one family, while emergency crews battled flames and rescued survivors.

A devastating fire at a hotel in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area has claimed 21 lives, triggering grief and raising fresh questions about safety standards in lodging facilities. Among the victims were eight members of a single family who had travelled to the capital for a personal visit.
The family had arrived from Gurugram to meet an elderly relative undergoing treatment at a Delhi hospital. Vivek Agarwal, a chartered accountant, was accompanied by his wife, two daughters and other close relatives during the trip. What was meant to be a family visit ended in unimaginable tragedy.
Investigators said the group was staying at a bed and breakfast establishment where the fire broke out on Wednesday morning. At the time of the incident, several family members were gathered in the dining area for breakfast when flames rapidly spread through the building.
Officials confirmed that all eight members of the family lost their lives in the blaze. The sole surviving immediate relative is 80 year old Radhey Shyam Agarwal, who remained hospitalized and was not present at the hotel when the fire occurred.
Rescue operations began immediately after emergency calls were received. Firefighters, police personnel, disaster response teams and ambulance services rushed to the location and worked for hours to evacuate guests and contain the flames.
The structure reportedly had limited evacuation options, making escape difficult once smoke filled the premises. Witnesses recalled chaotic scenes as guests searched for ways out while the fire intensified.
Several people trapped on upper floors resorted to jumping from the building to save themselves. Residents from nearby areas assisted rescue efforts by placing mattresses on the ground to reduce injuries for those forced to leap from windows and balconies.
In one dramatic incident, a woman carrying her infant reportedly jumped from the third floor. While both survived, the woman suffered a fractured leg and was taken for medical treatment.
Authorities said many of the hotel guests were foreign nationals who had travelled from African and Central Asian countries seeking medical care in Delhi. Identification of some victims is being carried out through DNA testing before the bodies are released to their families.
As investigations continue, the tragedy has left families shattered and communities mourning the loss of loved ones, while attention turns to the circumstances that allowed such a deadly fire to unfold.
