Telangana to Launch Mahila Shakti Super Bazaars in Nine Districts
The Telangana government is rolling out Mahila Shakti Super Bazaars and women led business projects to strengthen self help groups and create large scale employment opportunities.

The Telangana government is preparing to introduce a major women centric economic initiative with the launch of Mahila Shakti Super Bazaars across the state. The project is aimed at strengthening women self help groups and helping them emerge as successful entrepreneurs through large scale retail and business operations.
Following directions from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty is moving ahead with plans to establish Mahila Shakti Super Bazaars in nine key district centers during the first phase. The initiative is expected to create sustainable income opportunities while giving women direct control over commercial enterprises.
As part of the project, modern retail outlets will be established in Hyderabad, Warangal, Karimnagar, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Khammam, Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar and Sangareddy. These stores are being designed on the lines of major retail chains and will offer groceries, household products, consumer goods and daily essentials at competitive prices.
Officials recently conducted a high level review meeting to finalize implementation plans and identify suitable locations. District collectors will soon be approached to facilitate land allocation, with priority being given to areas that have high population density and strong commercial potential.
Khammam has been chosen as the center for an important pilot project under the initiative. Along with a Mahila Shakti Super Bazaar, the district will also get a logistics hub and a modern rice mill. The government believes that combining retail operations with storage and supply chain facilities will generate greater economic benefits for women groups.
Authorities estimate that each supermarket will require nearly 5,000 square yards of land. The process of identifying suitable government land is expected to begin immediately so that construction and operational activities can move forward without delay.
The Telangana government is also planning a large logistics and warehousing facility in Khammam. Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy has assured support for land allocation, and proposals are being prepared for nearly 20 acres to accommodate the logistics hub, warehouse infrastructure and rice mill.
A unique feature of the initiative is that the management and operational responsibilities will remain entirely with local women federations. Rather than outsourcing the projects, the government wants women self help groups to oversee administration, financial management and business operations.
Officials believe the Mahila Shakti initiative can become a model for women led economic development in Telangana. If the first phase achieves the desired results, similar projects will be expanded across other districts, creating new avenues for employment, entrepreneurship and financial independence for thousands of women.
