Kerala Pilot Killed in US Helicopter Crash Hours After Wedding

A joyful wedding celebration in Georgia turned into heartbreak when a private helicopter crashed shortly after takeoff, killing a young Kerala origin pilot and leaving his bride seriously injured.

What began as a dream wedding celebration ended in unimaginable tragedy for a young couple in the United States. Just hours after exchanging vows in the presence of family and friends, a newlywed groom lost his life in a helicopter crash, while his bride narrowly survived with serious injuries.

The accident occurred in the state of Georgia, where 25 year old Dave Faizy, a Delta Air Lines pilot of Indian origin, was traveling with his wife Jesny after their wedding ceremony. The private helicopter they boarded crashed shortly after takeoff, claiming the lives of Dave and the helicopter’s pilot. Jesny survived but suffered severe injuries.

Dave’s family traces its roots to Kerala’s Ernakulam district, while Jesny’s family is connected to Alappuzha. Relatives said the couple had celebrated their marriage in a grand ceremony attended by hundreds of guests before the tragedy unfolded later that night.

Following the wedding reception at a venue near Dawsonville, the newlyweds planned to travel to a hotel in downtown Atlanta. However, weather conditions had deteriorated significantly, with heavy rain and dense fog reducing visibility. Family members revealed that Dave, who was himself a trained commercial pilot, had expressed concerns about flying in such conditions and reportedly advised against taking off.

Despite the challenging weather, the helicopter departed around 10.30 pm. Within a short time, the Robinson R66 helicopter crashed in a remote wooded area southwest of Dawsonville, surrounded by hills and dense forest.

The impact shattered the aircraft, leaving debris scattered among trees. Jesny, badly injured in the crash, remained trapped beneath wreckage and fallen branches for nearly five hours before rescue teams could reach her. The difficult terrain, lack of communication networks, and limited road access slowed emergency operations.

According to family members, Jesny regained consciousness amid the wreckage and found Dave lying across her. Being a nurse herself, she checked for signs of life, but it was already too late. The emotional account has left relatives devastated as they struggle to come to terms with the sudden loss.

Rescue personnel eventually reached the crash site using off road vehicles and transported Jesny to a hospital. While she continues to recover from multiple injuries, relatives say the emotional trauma has been overwhelming.

The incident has shocked both the local community and members of the Indian diaspora. Authorities, including the National Transportation Safety Board, have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fatal crash.
