India Heatwave Intensifies as Top 50 Hottest Cities Are All in the Country
Rising temperatures and severe heatwave conditions across several states have pushed Indian cities into the global hottest list, raising health concerns and safety warnings.

India is witnessing intense summer conditions as soaring temperatures continue to grip large parts of the country. Heat levels have reached such extremes that all of the world’s top 50 hottest cities on Friday morning were reported from India, highlighting the severity of the ongoing weather situation.
The rising temperatures are creating difficult conditions for people across multiple states, with many avoiding outdoor activities during daytime hours. Even before noon, temperatures in several locations had already crossed the 40 degree mark due to strong heatwave conditions.
According to weather tracking data, Odisha’s Balangir recorded the highest temperature at 45 degrees Celsius. Chandrapur in Maharashtra and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh followed with temperatures touching 44 degrees Celsius. Several regions from Telangana, Bihar, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh also appeared on the high temperature list.
A significant number of affected cities were from Uttar Pradesh, where places including Varanasi, Banda, Bareilly and Ayodhya reported unusually high temperatures. The latest figures have drawn attention to the growing intensity of heat conditions being experienced this year.
The India Meteorological Department had already warned about severe heatwave conditions across northwestern and central regions of the country. Red and orange alerts have also been issued in several states to help people prepare for extreme weather conditions.
Health officials say hospitals are witnessing an increase in dehydration and heatstroke related cases. Children, senior citizens and people working outdoors are considered the most vulnerable. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during afternoon hours and stay hydrated by increasing fluid intake throughout the day.
