Harish Rao Says BRS Will Scrap Future City and Restore Pharma City
During his US visit, Harish Rao accused the Congress government of misusing the Future City project and promised to bring back Pharma City if BRS returns to power.

Former minister and BRS leader Harish Rao made strong political remarks during his visit to the United States, stating that the party would cancel the Future City project immediately if it returns to power in Telangana. He claimed that BRS would also restore the original Pharma City project and continue with its planned development.
Harish Rao alleged that the current Congress government is using the Future City concept mainly for real estate interests rather than focusing on long term industrial growth. According to him, the previous BRS administration had initiated Pharma City with the expectation of creating large scale employment and strengthening Telangana’s pharmaceutical sector.
He further stated that the project had received environmental approval from the central authorities and argued that laws already exist to protect farmers if any land use deviations take place. Harish Rao accused the state government of creating confusion around the issue and said the administration was presenting different narratives in public and in court.
Referring to a recent High Court case, he claimed that the government informed the court that the Pharma City project was still continuing. He questioned the government’s approach and described it as political maneuvering rather than a clear development strategy.
Harish Rao said the original vision behind Pharma City extended beyond industries alone. He explained that supporting facilities such as housing, education and infrastructure were also planned alongside industrial growth. He added that the project was expected to generate employment opportunities for lakhs of people and prevent pharmaceutical companies from moving outside Telangana.
He maintained that the Pharma City project would eventually move forward in its original form and asserted that the present government’s plans would not stand strong legally or politically in the future.
