OnePlus Ace 7 Series May Get Large Cooling Fan

OnePlus appears to be preparing a new generation of Ace series smartphones, and early reports suggest the upcoming OnePlus Ace 7 lineup could bring a major change to the way the phones handle heat.

The most unusual feature being reported is a large active cooling fan. If the information is accurate, OnePlus could use the fan as part of a new thermal management system designed to move heat away from the processor and other important internal components.

Heat management becomes particularly important when a smartphone is pushed for long periods. Extended gaming, high performance applications and other demanding workloads can raise internal temperatures and potentially reduce performance. An active cooling system could help the phone maintain performance for longer periods, although the real world effectiveness will depend on the final design.

The OnePlus Ace 7 is also expected to focus heavily on performance. Reports suggest that the standard model could use a customised version of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. OnePlus has not officially confirmed this processor or the other leaked specifications at this stage.

Display performance could receive an upgrade as well. The standard OnePlus Ace 7 is reportedly being tested with a refresh rate of up to 185Hz. A higher refresh rate can make supported games and animations appear smoother, although the benefit will also depend on software support and the type of content being viewed.

Battery capacity is another major highlight in the leaked information. The OnePlus Ace 7 is said to feature a 9000mAh battery, which would represent a significant increase over the battery used in the previous Ace 6.

Camera hardware may also receive attention. Reports suggest that the rear camera system could include a 50 megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom. This would give the phone dedicated hardware for capturing distant subjects rather than relying entirely on digital magnification.

These specifications are still unconfirmed, so the final camera setup could be different when OnePlus officially introduces the smartphone.

The upcoming Ace 7 series is expected to succeed the OnePlus Ace 6 lineup, which was introduced last year. The previous generation already focused strongly on gaming and performance, making the reported cooling system a logical area for OnePlus to explore further.

The OnePlus Ace 6 features a 6.83 inch 1.5K AMOLED flat display with a 165Hz refresh rate and a claimed peak brightness of 5,000 nits. It uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor along with a G2 gaming chip.

On the photography side, the Ace 6 has a 50 megapixel primary rear camera with optical image stabilisation and an 8 megapixel ultrawide camera. A 16 megapixel front camera handles selfies and video calls.

The previous model also came with a 7,800mAh battery and supported 120W fast charging. For security, OnePlus included an in display 3D fingerprint scanner.

OnePlus has also expanded the Ace family with the Ace 6 Ultra. Introduced in April this year, the model features a 6.78 inch Full HD Plus AMOLED display with a 165Hz refresh rate.

The Ace 6 Ultra uses the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 processor and an ARM Mali GPU, showing that OnePlus has been experimenting with different hardware platforms across its performance focused Ace lineup.

The reported Ace 7 specifications suggest that the company could push this performance strategy further. A larger battery could improve endurance, while a dedicated cooling fan could be aimed at maintaining stable performance during longer gaming sessions.

However, it is worth keeping expectations in check because the Ace 7 information currently comes from reports and leaks. OnePlus has not confirmed the large active cooling fan, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 custom processor, 185Hz display, 9000mAh battery or 3.5x periscope camera.

More details should become available as the launch approaches. The final design, specifications, pricing and availability will determine how closely the retail version matches the current reports.

For now, the combination of active cooling, a high refresh rate display, a large battery and a flagship level processor points toward another performance focused addition to the OnePlus Ace family.
