Honor 700 Pro May Feature Rear Display and 200 Megapixel Camera

Honor appears to be exploring a new approach to smartphone design with the upcoming Honor 700 Pro. According to early information, the phone could feature a small secondary screen on the rear, positioned within the camera area.

Tipster Digital Chat Station has reportedly shared details about the handset on Weibo. The Honor 700 Pro is said to feature a 6.57 inch flat display on the front with a 1.5K resolution. The rear could carry a 1.72 inch secondary screen.

The placement of the smaller display could be one of the phones most noticeable design features. Reports suggest that Honor may integrate it into the camera island, similar to the Magic Back Screen approach used on the Xiaomi 17 Pro series.

A rear screen can serve several practical purposes. One possible use is taking selfies with the main rear cameras while viewing the framing on the smaller display. This can give users a way to use the more capable rear camera hardware for self portraits instead of relying only on the front camera.

Honor has already experimented with a similar concept. The earlier Honor 600 series was offered with a magnetic mini display accessory that could attach to the rear of the phone. The accessory allowed users to see a preview while using the main cameras for selfies.

The reported built in display on the Honor 700 Pro would be a different approach because the secondary screen could become part of the phone itself rather than requiring a separate accessory.

The Honor 700 series is expected to arrive in China over the coming months, although the company has not yet announced an official launch date or complete specifications for the Pro model.

Camera capabilities could also be an important part of the new series. Honor recently introduced its Robot Phone, which gives an indication of the companys growing interest in advanced camera hardware and moving camera systems.

The Honor Robot Phone features a 6.31 inch OLED display with a resolution of 1216 by 2640 pixels and a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. It uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor with an Adreno 840 GPU.

Its camera system includes a 200 megapixel primary sensor with optical and gimbal based stabilisation. The main camera uses a large CMOS sensor and has an f1.6 aperture with a 23mm equivalent focal length.

The Robot Phone also includes a 200 megapixel periscope telephoto camera. It offers 2.7x optical zoom and up to 200x digital zoom. A 50 megapixel ultrawide camera with a 122 degree field of view completes the rear camera arrangement.

A 50 megapixel front camera is provided for selfies and video calls. The rear camera system can record 4K video at up to 120 frames per second, while the front camera supports 4K recording at up to 60 frames per second.

Another unusual feature of the Robot Phone is its robotic gimbal camera mounted at the top. The camera can rotate to follow a subject while recording video and uses a three axis gimbal stabilisation system.

These Robot Phone features are separate from the reported specifications of the Honor 700 Pro, and Honor has not confirmed that the upcoming model will use the same camera hardware. They do, however, show the type of camera technology Honor has been exploring in its recent smartphones.

For the Honor 700 Pro, the reported 1.72 inch rear display could become the defining design element. Integrating the screen into the camera island would allow the company to offer additional functionality without requiring a separate accessory.

The reported 200 megapixel camera could also strengthen the phones photography credentials, although details about the sensor, additional cameras, stabilisation and video recording capabilities have not yet been revealed.

There is still considerable information missing about the Honor 700 Pro. Processor, battery capacity, charging speed, memory configurations, software and pricing have not been confirmed.

The company is expected to reveal more information as the Honor 700 series approaches its launch. Until then, the rear display and 200 megapixel camera should be treated as reported specifications rather than confirmed features.
