Abhishek Sharma Joins Virat Kohli in Elite T20 Century Record
Abhishek Sharma has matched Virat Kohli’s 10 T20 centuries after a stunning hundred against Afghanistan, reaching the milestone in just 205 innings.
India’s young opening batter Abhishek Sharma has added another major milestone to his rapidly developing T20 career. His explosive century against Afghanistan in the third T20I in Delhi on Thursday night took his overall tally in the format to 10 hundreds, putting him alongside Virat Kohli at the top among Indian batters.
Abhishek’s latest hundred was more than just another big score. It placed him in an elite group of T20 batters and showed once again how quickly the left hander has established himself as one of India’s most aggressive players in the shortest format.
The 25 year old has reached 10 T20 centuries in 205 innings. His tally includes three hundreds for India and two in the Indian Premier League, with the remaining centuries coming in other T20 competitions. His ability to attack from the opening overs has played an important role in helping him accumulate big scores at such a rapid rate.
Kohli, meanwhile, has also recorded 10 centuries in T20 cricket. Nine of those hundreds have come in the IPL, while his remaining century was scored for India. Although Kohli began his professional career back in 2008, reaching the same mark highlights the significance of Abhishek getting there so early in his career.
Abhishek is now also part of the select group of batters who have scored at least 10 centuries in T20 cricket. Among those to reach the landmark, only Chris Gayle got there faster. The former West Indies power hitter needed just 126 innings to complete his first 10 T20 hundreds, while Abhishek reached the mark in 205 innings.
The Indian list has plenty of established names behind the two current leaders. KL Rahul, Sanju Samson and Rohit Sharma have each registered eight T20 centuries. Rahul’s tally includes two hundreds for India and six in the IPL. Samson has scored three for India and five in the IPL, while Rohit has five international T20 centuries and two in the IPL according to the figures provided.
What makes Abhishek’s achievement stand out is the speed at which he has built his record. T20 cricket often leaves very little room for mistakes, yet the Indian opener has consistently taken an attacking approach and turned that intent into substantial scores.
His century against Afghanistan has therefore added another significant chapter to a career that is still in its early stages. With 10 T20 hundreds already to his name, Abhishek has now entered the same statistical territory as Kohli, while the gap between him and the next group of Indian batters remains clear.
