MS Subbulakshmi Biopic Gets Release Window From Allu Aravind
The MS Subbulakshmi biopic starring Rashmika Mandanna is expected after August next year, with Gautham Tinnanuri directing and Anirudh Ravichander composing.

The much awaited biopic on legendary Carnatic musician MS Subbulakshmi has received an update on its possible release timeline. Producer Allu Aravind said the film could reach audiences sometime after August next year, although an exact release date has not been announced yet.
The film is titled MS A Legacy on Screen and is being directed by Gautham Tinnanuri. Rashmika Mandanna has been chosen to portray MS Subbulakshmi, while Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music.
Allu Aravind shared the release update during the launch event held at the Music Academy in Chennai. The project is being produced jointly by Geetha Arts, Rockline Entertainment and Bunny Vass Works.
The filmmakers appear to be taking their time with the subject rather than rushing the production. Gautham Tinnanuri revealed that his team has spent around a year researching the life of MS Subbulakshmi. The intention, according to the director, is to look beyond her achievements on the concert stage.
MS Subbulakshmi was known around the world for her Carnatic music performances and received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour. The film will also explore the less familiar parts of her journey, including her experiences as a daughter, woman and artist.
For Gautham, that human side is an important part of the story. The director wants audiences to see the person behind the celebrated musician and understand the choices, sacrifices, setbacks and achievements that shaped her life.
The project is also being positioned as a story that can connect with younger audiences. Gautham pointed to the way success is often measured today through likes, shares and subscribers. Against that backdrop, he believes MS Subbulakshmi’s journey offers a different example of achievement built through discipline, patience and years of dedication.
Rashmika’s casting has added another layer of interest to the project. Playing a cultural icon of such stature comes with considerable responsibility, and the film’s research driven approach suggests that the makers are paying attention to the details of her life and career.
The movie is not being presented simply as a musical biography. The director’s comments indicate that the narrative will move between her public achievements and personal experiences, giving space to both the celebrated moments and the challenges she faced.
Anirudh Ravichander’s involvement is another major feature of the project. His music will be an important part of a film centred on one of India’s most recognised classical music personalities.
While the makers have indicated that the film could arrive after August next year, audiences will have to wait for an official release date. The production schedule and post production work will determine when the final date is announced.
For now, the combination of Rashmika Mandanna in the lead role, Gautham Tinnanuri behind the camera and Anirudh Ravichander handling the music has created considerable curiosity around MS A Legacy on Screen.
