The Sun Koshi in Sindhuli, Budhi Gandaki in Gorkha and Mahakali in Dadeldhura were among the rivers reported to be above the danger mark during Wednesday morning’s readings, according to Nepal’s Hydrology and Meteorology Department.
Lamjung is facing a similar situation. Water levels at the Marsyangdi and Bhukundebesi monitoring stations have also moved past the danger level. Officials are concerned that further rain could send more water into nearby flood prone areas.
Rain has been continuing across several parts of Nepal as the monsoon remains active. Central, western and eastern regions are seeing particularly close monitoring because of the possibility of sudden rises in river levels.
The weather has caused other problems as well. Lightning and heavy rain have been linked to a growing number of deaths in different parts of the country. Rescue and relief work is continuing in the affected areas.
