Narendra Modi Opens Jodhpur Airport Terminal and Launches Revamped UDAN Scheme
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Jodhpur Airport terminal and launched the revamped UDAN Scheme with a Rs 28,840 crore allocation to strengthen regional air connectivity over the next decade.
Modi Unveils Modern Airport Terminal
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly built terminal at Jodhpur Airport in Rajasthan on Saturday, marking a major milestone in the state’s aviation infrastructure. Developed at a cost of Rs 480 crore, the modern terminal is designed to handle future passenger growth while offering improved travel facilities.
After unveiling the inauguration plaque through a remote activation, the Prime Minister toured different sections of the terminal and reviewed the passenger amenities created inside the new facility.
Designed for Future Passenger Demand
Spread across more than 23,000 square metres, the new terminal has the capacity to serve nearly 20 lakh passengers every year. Officials said the project has been planned to meet the growing demand for air travel while providing a seamless and comfortable airport experience.
The upgraded infrastructure is expected to improve operational efficiency and support the increasing number of domestic travellers visiting the region.
Revamped UDAN Scheme Gets New Push
During the event, Prime Minister Modi also officially launched the revised UDAN Scheme, backed by an allocation of Rs 28,840 crore for the next ten years. The renewed programme aims to accelerate the growth of India’s civil aviation sector by improving regional air connectivity.
The scheme will focus on expanding flight services to smaller and medium-sized cities, making air travel more affordable for ordinary citizens, and building a stronger and more sustainable aviation network across the country.
Leaders Welcome the Prime Minister
On his arrival at Jodhpur Airport, Prime Minister Modi was welcomed by Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagade, Union Jal Shakti Minister and Jodhpur MP Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, and several other dignitaries.
The visit also featured colourful cultural performances by local folk artists, who showcased Rajasthan’s rich heritage through traditional music and dance, adding a vibrant touch to the official programme.
Economic and Tourism Benefits Expected
According to officials, the new airport terminal is expected to strengthen Rajasthan’s aviation infrastructure while supporting tourism, trade, business, and industrial growth. The improved connectivity is also likely to generate new employment opportunities and contribute to the region’s long-term economic development.
