WhatsApp Usernames Feature: WhatsApp is preparing to introduce a major privacy upgrade that will allow users to communicate without revealing their phone numbers. The messaging platform announced that a new username system will soon be introduced, giving users an additional layer of privacy while chatting with individuals, groups, and businesses.

Under the upcoming feature, users will be able to connect using unique usernames instead of sharing their mobile numbers. According to Meta, the primary objective is to enhance user privacy and reduce unnecessary exposure of personal contact information.

The new system is expected to be especially useful in large group conversations and when contacting someone for the first time. Unlike many social media platforms, WhatsApp will not offer a public directory or search option for usernames. A person can only be contacted if the sender already knows the exact username, helping prevent unwanted messages from strangers.

With more than three billion users worldwide, WhatsApp acknowledged that some preferred usernames may already be taken. The feature will be introduced gradually across different countries over the coming months, and users will receive an in app notification when it becomes available in their region.

Meta also confirmed that creators, businesses, and organizations will be able to reserve the same usernames they already use on Facebook or Instagram. Technology experts believe the update will significantly improve privacy while making WhatsApp communication more secure and user friendly.
