How to Check Every SIM Card Linked to Your Aadhaar and Report Unauthorized Numbers
Cyber fraud involving fake SIM cards is increasing across India making it essential to verify every mobile connection linked to your Aadhaar and immediately report any unauthorized number found.
Mobile SIM cards have become an essential part of everyday life, but they have also become a common tool for cyber criminals. Fraudsters sometimes misuse identity documents to obtain SIM cards in someone else’s name and use them for illegal activities. Such misuse can lead to financial fraud, legal complications, and serious security risks for the genuine Aadhaar holder.
To help citizens stay protected, the Central Government has introduced the Sanchar Saathi platform. One of its key features, Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection known as TAFCOP, allows users to check all active mobile numbers issued in their name. This service helps people quickly identify unauthorized SIM cards linked to their Aadhaar.
Checking your registered SIM cards is a simple process. Open the official Sanchar Saathi website through your mobile phone or computer browser. In the TAFCOP section, enter your active ten digit mobile number that is registered with your identity. Complete the security captcha and validate it. You will then receive a one time password on your mobile. After entering the OTP and logging in, the portal will display every mobile number currently linked to your identity.
If you notice a mobile number that you never purchased or no longer use, you can report it directly through the portal. Select the checkbox beside the suspicious number. Choose This is not my number if the connection does not belong to you. If it is an old number that you no longer require, select No longer required. Submit the report using the available option.
Once your complaint is submitted successfully, you will receive a ticket or request ID on the screen along with a confirmation SMS. Save this reference number carefully because it can be used to track the status of your complaint later.
After receiving your request, the government coordinates with the concerned telecom operator to verify the ownership of the reported SIM card. If the person using that number fails to provide valid identity documents, the connection may be permanently deactivated.
Experts recommend checking your active mobile connections regularly instead of waiting for a problem to arise. Visiting the Sanchar Saathi portal at least once every month can help you identify suspicious activity early. You can also use the official Sanchar Saathi mobile application available through the government to access these services more conveniently.
