Facebook and Instagram Outage Disrupts Users Across India and Other Countries

Thousands of users across India and several other countries faced unexpected disruptions on Sunday after Meta platforms Facebook and Instagram experienced a temporary outage. The issue affected multiple services, leaving many users unable to access features such as posting content, viewing timelines and logging into their accounts. Services have since been restored, allowing both platforms to function normally again.

As the disruption spread, users quickly turned to other social media platforms to report the problem and check whether others were facing similar issues. Complaints surged within a short period, indicating that the outage was affecting a large number of people rather than isolated accounts.

According to outage tracking platform Downdetector, Instagram received more than 4000 reports globally during the disruption, while Facebook recorded over 3000 complaints. Messenger users also experienced difficulties, with more than 100 reports submitted during the same period.

India was among the countries significantly affected by the temporary outage. More than 2000 users reported issues with Instagram alone. Downdetector data indicated that around 39 percent of users encountered problems with the mobile application, while 31 percent experienced issues with the feed or timeline. Another 23 percent reported difficulties uploading or publishing posts.

The outage map showed that major Indian cities including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Jaipur and Ahmedabad were among the locations reporting the highest number of service interruptions. Users from these cities said they were unable to access certain features for a considerable period before normal service resumed.

Facebook users primarily reported issues with the desktop version of the platform. Many said they were still able to access Facebook through the mobile application but faced problems while logging in through a web browser. Some users encountered an error message stating that their account was temporarily unavailable due to a site issue and advising them to try again after a few minutes.

Instagram users, on the other hand, mainly struggled with loading the application, refreshing timelines and publishing new posts. While not every account was affected, the outage disrupted the experience for thousands of users around the world.

The service interruption was not limited to India. Reports from the United States also indicated widespread problems, with more than 4200 Instagram users and around 3200 Facebook users reporting outages during the incident. The data suggested that the disruption affected users in multiple regions, although it did not completely disable either platform worldwide.
