Telangana Unlikely to Receive Rain for Another Week as Heat Intensifies
The weather department has forecast a dry spell across Telangana until July 20, with rising temperatures, strong surface winds, and below normal rainfall increasing concerns among farmers and residents.
Telangana is expected to witness another week of dry weather, with the India Meteorological Department indicating that widespread rainfall is unlikely until July 20. The prolonged dry spell has pushed temperatures higher than normal and added to the concerns of farmers waiting for monsoon showers.
Instead of the cloudy and rainy conditions usually seen during July, several parts of the state are experiencing hot afternoons and uncomfortable weather. Officials said weakened southwest monsoon conditions have reduced rainfall activity, allowing temperatures to rise across many districts.
Mahabubnagar recorded the highest daytime temperature in the state on Tuesday. The district touched 38.5 degrees Celsius, which was nearly 6.9 degrees above normal. Hyderabad recorded 35.6 degrees Celsius, while Khammam registered 36.4 degrees Celsius, reflecting the widespread rise in temperatures.
The weather department has also warned that strong surface winds are likely to continue until July 20. Combined with the hot and dry conditions, the weather has forced many people to switch back to coolers and air conditioners after a brief spell of pleasant monsoon weather.
The lack of rainfall is becoming a growing concern for agriculture. From June 1 until now, Telangana was expected to receive 214.4 millimetres of rainfall. However, the state has recorded only 154 millimetres, resulting in a 28 percent rainfall deficit.
Farmers say the continued delay in rainfall could affect crops already sown in several districts. Those cultivating crops such as cotton and maize are closely watching weather conditions, hoping for timely showers to support crop growth during the crucial phase of the agricultural season.
With no significant rainfall expected over the coming days, concerns are also increasing over irrigation and water availability. Weather officials have advised people to take precautions against the heat while continuing to monitor changing monsoon conditions.
