Hyderabad Voters May Face SIR Verification as Electoral Roll Review Intensifies

A large number of voters in Hyderabad are likely to receive verification notices as the Election Commission continues the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls across Telangana. Officials expect urban constituencies to account for a major share of the discrepancies being identified during the ongoing exercise.

According to election authorities, the preliminary review has already detected millions of mismatches in voter records across the state. The figure is expected to rise further once the enumeration process is completed and all submitted forms are examined.

Officials are verifying various types of inconsistencies, including differences in names, unusual age gaps between family members, and multiple voters linked to a single reference in earlier electoral records. These checks are aimed at improving the accuracy of the voter database before the final electoral roll is published.

Every eligible voter has received a pre filled enumeration form containing existing electoral details, including name, address, photograph and Booth Level Officer information. Those who were registered in the 2002 electoral roll have been asked to provide their earlier voter details. Others may submit information related to their parents who were enrolled during that period.

Authorities clarified that voters who do not have information related to the 2002 electoral roll can still submit their forms with current details. Such voters may later receive a notice requesting additional documents to establish their eligibility if verification becomes necessary.

The Chief Electoral Officer also assured that no voter’s name will be removed from the electoral roll without due process. Electoral Registration Officers will issue notices and examine each case individually before taking any decision. Officials said alternative identity documents may also be considered wherever standard records are unavailable.

Election authorities stressed that the objective of the Special Intensive Revision is to ensure that all eligible citizens remain on the electoral roll while correcting genuine errors through a transparent verification process.
