India Launches Three Naval Vessels: India Unveils Three Advanced Naval Vessels to Strengthen Maritime Capabilities
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched three indigenous naval vessels in Kolkata, highlighting India’s growing defense technology strength and enhanced capabilities in warfare, surveillance, navigation, and maritime operations.

India Launches Three Naval Vessels: India took another significant step in strengthening its naval power as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated three advanced naval vessels at the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata on Sunday. The launch reflects the country’s continued focus on modernizing its defense sector through indigenous technology and innovation.
Addressing the gathering, Modi said the newly commissioned vessels represent India’s growing self reliance in defense manufacturing. He noted that the country is steadily adopting advanced technologies to improve its ability to safeguard strategic maritime interests and strengthen national security.
Among the vessels introduced was INS Dunagiri, which is equipped with BrahMos anti ship cruise missile systems. Designed for combat readiness, the vessel is expected to play an important role in strengthening the Indian Navy’s operational capabilities in challenging maritime environments.
Another vessel, INS Sanshodhak, has been specially developed for hydrographic surveys, navigation support, deep sea route assessment, and maritime research activities. Its advanced systems will assist in improving nautical mapping and enhancing the safety of marine operations.
The third vessel, INS Agray, is equipped with modern surveillance and operational technologies aimed at supporting a wide range of naval missions. Together, the three vessels are expected to strengthen India’s ability to monitor and secure its maritime domain.
Officials highlighted that all three vessels have been fitted with sophisticated radar and sensor systems, enabling them to operate efficiently in difficult sea conditions. The advanced technology allows them to detect potential threats, conduct surveillance missions, and respond effectively during defense operations.
The launch also underlines India’s broader objective of expanding domestic defense production and reducing dependence on foreign military equipment. The government has repeatedly emphasized indigenous manufacturing as a key pillar of national security and economic growth.
With the addition of these vessels, India aims to enhance its maritime capabilities across warfare, survey, navigation, and surveillance functions while reinforcing its strategic presence in regional waters.
