Goa Congress Leader Ketan Bhatikar Passes Away After Snakebite Near Karnataka Border
Senior Congress member and physiotherapist Dr Ketan Bhatikar died after a snakebite incident during a late night journey near the Goa Karnataka border, shocking political leaders and supporters.

Goa politics was left in mourning after Congress leader Dr Ketan Bhatikar died in a tragic snakebite incident near the Karnataka border. The sudden death of the young politician and physiotherapist has triggered grief across political circles in the state.
Police officials said the incident took place late Thursday night when Bhatikar was travelling towards Dandeli in Karnataka. During the journey, he reportedly stepped out of his vehicle near the Karmal Ghat area under circumstances that are still being investigated.
Soon after getting down from the vehicle, he was allegedly bitten by a snake. People accompanying him immediately shifted him to a government health centre in Dharbandora, Goa. However, doctors declared him dead by the time he reached the hospital.
The 38 year old leader had recently become a well known political face during the Ponda Assembly by election developments. Congress had selected him as its candidate before the by election process was cancelled following a court ruling.
Bhatikar later approached the Supreme Court challenging the High Court verdict, and the matter remains pending before the apex court.
His sudden death has drawn emotional reactions from leaders across party lines. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant expressed deep sorrow and described the incident as a painful loss for both society and the medical profession. He also offered condolences to the bereaved family.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao said the tragedy had shocked many people in Goa, especially those who knew Bhatikar personally. Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, who is currently in Goa, also paid tribute and conveyed sympathies to the family members and supporters.
Apart from his political career, Bhatikar was also respected as a physiotherapist and had built a strong connection with people through public service and healthcare activities.
