Ather Set to Launch Affordable Family Electric Scooter with Up to 105 km Range

Ather Energy is preparing to expand its product lineup with an all new family electric scooter aimed at the affordable segment. The Bengaluru based manufacturer has confirmed that the first model built on its new EL platform will be unveiled on August 29 during its annual Community Day event. The scooter is expected to arrive at dealerships during the festive season.

The upcoming model is likely to carry a starting price of around Rs 1 lakh ex showroom, making it the most affordable scooter in Ather’s portfolio. This would place it below the Ather Rizta, which currently starts at Rs 1.14 lakh. With this launch, the company is looking to strengthen its presence in the mass market after focusing mainly on premium electric scooters in recent years.

The new EL platform has been designed to support multiple models across different price points. It is expected to accommodate wheel sizes ranging from 10 inches to 14 inches, allowing Ather to develop a wider range of electric scooters for different customer needs.

The scooter is expected to feature a practical family friendly design with a wide front apron, rectangular LED headlamps mounted on the handlebar, a flat single piece seat and a spacious floorboard. Reports from road testing suggest that it could offer enough under seat storage for two helmets along with additional space for everyday luggage. The expected hardware includes a 14 inch front wheel, a 12 inch rear wheel, a front disc brake and a rear drum brake.

In terms of technology, the scooter is likely to come equipped with the latest AtherStack software, smartphone connectivity, navigation support and multiple riding modes. Entry level variants may receive a simpler display to keep pricing competitive. Industry reports also suggest that Ather could use a hub mounted electric motor instead of its traditional belt driven system to reduce production costs.

Battery options are expected to range from 2 kWh to 5 kWh, delivering an estimated riding range of 95 to 105 kilometres on a full charge depending on the variant. The scooter is also expected to feature Ather’s patented AC DC charging module placed beneath the seat, making it easier for riders to store the charging cable inside the vehicle.

Once launched, the new Ather electric scooter is expected to compete directly with popular models such as the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak and Ola S1X. With its combination of competitive pricing, practical features and trusted brand value, Ather hopes to attract buyers looking for an everyday family electric scooter.
