Former Deloitte IT Manager Accused of Stealing 399 Laptops in Hong Kong

A former Deloitte IT manager in Hong Kong faces allegations over hundreds of stolen company laptops, with the case highlighting questions around workplace security, missing devices and alleged financial losses.

• Deloitte laptop theft involved 399 devices.

• Former IT manager faces a theft charge.

• Hong Kong court granted bail in the case.

A former IT manager at Deloitte in Hong Kong has been accused of stealing hundreds of laptops from the company during his time in the role. The case has drawn attention after nearly 400 devices were allegedly taken from Deloitte’s office in Taikoo Shing.

According to court information reported by the South China Morning Post, the accused is 38 year old Ho Man kit. He appeared before the Eastern Court in March 2025 in connection with a theft charge. The alleged offences took place between September 2021 and February 2023.

Investigators allege that 399 laptops belonging to Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu were taken during that period. Court documents put the value of the devices at more than HK$2.79 million.

The prosecution did not ask the accused to enter a plea during the initial hearing. Instead, the case was adjourned to allow additional police investigation and further consideration by the Department of Justice. The court granted Ho bail while the proceedings continue.

The alleged theft reportedly happened while Ho was working in Deloitte’s information technology department. The large number of laptops involved has made the case particularly notable, with the alleged activity continuing over an extended period.

Earlier reports also described claims that the laptops were sold after being taken from the company. However, the publicly available court report confirms the alleged theft and the value of the devices, while further details about any resale proceeds and their alleged use for stock trading have not been independently confirmed in the court report.

The case remains an allegation at this stage, and no conviction has been reported. The court proceedings are expected to determine the facts surrounding the missing laptops and the accusations against the former Deloitte employee.

The incident also highlights the challenges companies face in controlling large inventories of valuable technology equipment. Hundreds of laptops can represent a substantial financial exposure, particularly when devices are distributed across offices and departments.

For now, the legal process in Hong Kong is continuing, with the prosecution given additional time for investigation and legal advice. The accused remains entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty in court.
