X Money Launch Brings Digital Payments and Banking to the X Platform
Elon Musk expands X beyond social networking with a new digital payments service offering money transfers banking features and Visa debit card access for eligible users in the United States

Elon Musk has taken another major step toward transforming X into an all in one digital platform with the launch of X Money, a new payments and banking service. The feature is designed to let users handle financial transactions directly within the X app, reducing the need to switch between multiple payment or banking applications. At present, the service is available only to X Premium and Premium Plus subscribers in the United States.
The newly introduced platform combines digital payments with everyday banking tools in a single experience. Users can send money to other X accounts without transfer charges, pay bills, receive direct deposits, and access a Visa debit card linked to their account. By bringing these services together, X aims to expand beyond social media and become a platform that supports both communication and financial activities.
Security has been given significant attention in the rollout of X Money. Instead of relying only on traditional passwords, the service supports passkeys, allowing users to log in using fingerprint authentication, facial recognition, or a device PIN. Additional protections such as transaction limits and verification for selected payments are also included to help reduce the risk of unauthorized activity.
Although X Money offers banking related services, it does not function as a bank itself. Customer deposits are held by Cross River Bank, a regulated financial institution based in New Jersey. Eligible deposits are protected under Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation coverage, providing insurance of up to 250000 dollars per depositor. The platform also distributes customer funds across partner banks through its cash sweep program while Visa Direct technology enables faster transfers between bank accounts and debit cards.
The company says the Visa debit card comes with a premium metal finish and can display the user’s X handle. Customers may also receive three percent cashback on eligible purchases along with an annual percentage yield of up to 6.00 percent on qualifying balances, making the service more attractive to users looking for both convenience and financial rewards.
The launch reflects Musk’s long term vision of turning X into a super app that combines social networking, payments, and financial services under one digital ecosystem. Similar models have already gained popularity in several international markets, and X is now attempting to build a comparable experience for its users.
For now, X Money remains exclusive to the United States, and the company has not announced an official timeline for expansion into India. However, Musk has indicated that the service is expected to enter additional global markets in the future. If it eventually arrives in India, it is likely to compete with established digital payment platforms such as Google Pay, PhonePe, and WhatsApp Payments, adding another major player to the country’s rapidly growing digital finance sector.
